The Spirit of Adoption

Jewish, I am not, (and I don't plan to become Jewish) but I am a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ and have been for over 45 years. However, I can't shake off the idea of learning more about Jewish Holy Days and practices. In fact, like dark chocolate, it has become a borderline obsession.

Our generous close friend Grace (name changed to protect her identity) shares tiny glimpses into Jewish practices regularly. She opens our eyes to candle-lit Shabbat meals; tasty Purim Hamentaschen treats; and, both she and the library provide generous stacks of loaned books with all things Judaism. In other words, so far, I know enough about Judaism to be potentially dangerous.

The titles theologian and scholar are in no way my identity. Tiptoeing into Shabbat the last 2 Saturdays, and sensing Jewish Passover in the air, I dive into this new blog topic to write what I learn. I want to document in a down-to-earth, understandable way my gleanings. Nothing deep or detailed.

I am an ordinary person with an insatiable curiosity to know more about the Jewish practices that Jesus observed when He walked this earth over 2,000 years ago.

(Romans 8:15 NIV)

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;
rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.
And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
